DESCRIPTION:Dear Belleville\, Brockville\, and Kingston Rotary Club Members
\,   I'm Amanda Amesse (formally Stolk)\, and I am now the Outreach Manag
er with True North Aid. I've been so blessed to have worked with many of
you when I started preparing and shipping medical supplies to Northern Ont
ario in 2018\, and have continued our friendship until today!    I am co
ntinuing to work with Katie Koopman\, who runs the Good Ally Program\, in
running the reconciliation walks in Kingston and Brockville.    For many
years\, True North Aid has enjoyed an ongoing partnership with Rotary Clu
bs across Canada.   Not only has Rotary supported our organization's mand
ate to provide practical humanitarian supplies to northern and remote Indi
genous communities\, but Rotary's monetary donations have assisted True No
rth Aid in funding Indigenous-led projects and community emergency fire re
lief requests.    True North Aid remains grateful to our Rotary contacts
and the relationships that have evolved through working together.   I a
m reaching out to local clubs to invite you to join True North Aid and ou
r venue hosts on Sunday\, September 28th\, in a volunteer capacity\, as we
host our 6th annual Reconciliation Walk at Little Cataraqui Conservation
in Kingston\, and our 2nd Annual Reconciliation Walk at Mac Johnson Wildli
fe Area just north of Brockville.    The Reconciliation Walk is a self-
guided walk that follows a timeline of residential school history through
reading stations along a wooded path. This educational event offers a so
bering\, yet comprehensive overview of our shared and complicated history\
, while allowing for both reflection and remembrance of the 150\,000 Indig
enous children who were taken from their families and communities.  Pleas
e find our Reconciliation Walk brochure attached.   It is a free event\,
rain or shine\, and from 10-3 pm.   We are turning to your members for as
sistance to help with simple tasks\, such as taking shifts at our welcome
table\, maintaining the trails and timeline to ensure it remains in place
\, fire duty (if conditions allow for a fire)\, take down\, and engaging p
articipants in conversation about Rotary's efforts to further reconcition
in Canada (or perhaps even your personal journey and understanding).
Online training will be provided on two evening dates in September\; membe
rs only need to attend one.   This event will also be hosted by the Rotar
y Club of Guelph and the Toronto Region Conservation Authority at The Vill
age at Black Creek on the same day.   We hope that we can count on the sp
irit and efforts of your club members to support True North Aid's reconcil
iatory initiatives in a very real and impactful way.   If your organizati
on is interested in volunteering\, please email me as soon as possible.
I look forward to hearing from you!    Amanda
