Originally built in 1968, Fairmount Home opened as a long-term care facility.  Kingston-Frontenac Rotary, only two years old itself, found in it an excellent opportunity to which we could reach out to in many ways.

Out of the starting gate, a monthly bingo and music evening was established.  Member’s children (and grandchildren) visited to the glee of all residents.  Following the bingo, a rousing session of musical favourites brought smiles to the faces of residents; many of whom just had to jump to their dancing. feet.  Santa joined in every Christmas both for the music and to walk the wards to visit every resident.  Today, club members host an afternoon bingo.

Financial support included funding gazebos, a passenger van, paving outdoor walking paths, and sundry. The expansion of 2004 saw the funding for a volunteer’s room.  Late last year, the facility saw a new auditorium extension supported by and named after the Rotary Club of Kingston-Frontenac.

We are proud of our continued relationship to an organization that is committed to the “Gentlecare” philosophy; resident-focused care which empowers residents to make individual choices.  A tour, following the 2004 expansion, saw many members enquiring about how to get on the waiting list!
