Hello members of the Kingston Frontenac International Services committee for 2024 / 25.
Douglas Tanton here, and as your incoming Committee Chair I am pleased to support our group as we consider how to continue our great past work and financially support International projects, and how to focus our efforts as we move forward.
At our Club Board meeting in July we heard from Club executive and incoming treasurer how tight the budgets will be for 2024/25 and how the International Services Committee needs to be active in fundraising for unrestricted funds in the future, as our resources are not tied to bingo funds.
We were advised that our budget allocation for 2024 / 25 will be $9,500.00 CDN, and that there had been cases in the past when small parts of this budget even went towards domestic (Canadian) relief / emergency efforts, although this is a very different funding pool than International projects.
For our budget 2024 / 25 we will allocate $6,000.00 CDN for commitments already underway (listed in attached report), we will push our funding support for Nepal programmes into 2025/26 to allow for background work to be completed this year, and we will hold an allocation of available resources of $3,000.00 for our committee to discuss, prioritize and vote on for 2024 / 25 further programme funding.
In addition, I am recommending we hold a reserve of $500 "if" there could be some emergency need in 2024 / 25. Further, I will also ask our Board / Club formally to consider setting up an emergency "pooled fund" in the future years to be held aside, not part of our Int. Service Committee budget, as these allocatons seem to be club wide in nature, and with the spends within Canada, our restricted funds may be more appropriate.
I invite everyone to please join us for our first 2 in person meetins of the year, to be held at the Wharf & Feather restaurant at The Holiday Inn. I invite apporpriate club communications persons to publish these meetings online and in club updates, and encourage others from our club to join.
We will build an agenda in September and October to review programmes with funding commitments, and we will discuss the possibility of a holiday appeal, similar to Greta's Blanket Drive last year. We have allocated $1,000 from our fund to support this again. Finally, our next two meetings we will have an opportunity to discuss our "direction" and "focus" as a committee, be it geographic, tech innovation, mentorship, gender focused, etc... i have listed some of my own perspectives on this in the attached report and encourage everyone to bring their ideas to our next meetings. I have also provided the listings for our own meetings and our regional committee if you are inclined to participate in both;
