- Next 3 Meetings scheduled:

o Tuesday April 29th, 2025

o Tuesday June 10th, 2025

My / Douglas Tanton personal Land Acknowledgement.

As Chair of this voluntary Rotary committee, I will be sharing my own personal land acknowledgement before every meeting I am Chairing in 2024 / 25.

“As someone who lives, works and plays on this land, I am compelled and humbled to acknowledge those who have come before me, those who provided stewardship on the land and continue to share the land and teachings with those of us who are Settlers.”

Simmy Ahluwalia

Introduced herself, from club D7040 Passport, as the new International Service Chair at her Rotary Club.

She joining us on Feb. 11th meeting and Simmy is invited to return on April 29th

.

Karin Euler   keeuler@gmail.com

Was earlier connected via Elizabeth Goode, she presented some of her past work and her very exciting programmes happening now. I have here attached her email so everyone from our committee may reach out to Karin. Some discussion on how we all could support, and some ideas on developing a global grant/ projects in Tanzania and she is continuing to look for our committee’s experience to help consider which for her to support. Karin is invited to come back for April 29th meeting.

Carol Cartier / Pete Burrell

No update in Feb, look forward to Carol and Pete’s contributions in April.

Don Polk

Brazil Project – Don let us know there was nothing to report at this point as Brazil is on summer vacation.  They’ll be back at the end of the month, so he hopes to have something to update next meeting.

Thailand Project via Mae Tao Clinic. The Mae Tao Clinic website shows means of receiving tax-exempt donations from intermediary organizations in US, UK, Hong Kong & Australia. I will check

to see if they have a way for Canada.

There were no donations received by Rotary Thailand from Thai donors and they have no way of knowing whether their campaign resulted in any donations made directly to the Mae Tao Clinic. I’ll

check with Meghan to see if she's had any contact with the clinic on this. Further, I will check to see whether the Thai Club is planning on contributing their own funds to this project.

Peter Morrin mentioned the possibility of doing a District Matching Grant or Simplified District Grant to access Rotary funds. These grants are far less bureaucratic than a Global Grant and may

therefore be a good solution.

We also discussed the possibility of checking whether the Ottawa Foundation (which sends scholarship funds to Ilet in Tanzania) might be a vehicle for this project as well.

Meghan Jenkins is planning to have her photo exhibition on March 8th at The Spire to raise money.

Update Feb. 21st

Kingston Frontenac Rotary Club, under the research and dedication of Don Polk, has secured 3rd party NON PROFIT CRA approved funding partner – in Canada!!! For donatons flowing thru to

Thailand Medical Clinic. Don Polk has successfully developed this new relationship and both Don and myself are excited to report we have moved major donations from our club, and we can see

great promise with this programme long term, considering Medical Innovation, Women’s Programming, and Human Development / Anti Human Trafficking programmes. Don Polk and

Douglas Tanton to provide full details at April 29th JIPC meeting, with opportunities for clubs to consider individual and club donations, and for our committee to consider support through future district or other grants via the Rotary Club in Thailand. I spoke at some length with Peter Morrin this afternoon on this. Following our discussion with John Mirski and Fred Richmond after last

week’s Club meeting, the Erle Allan Trust Fund is not able, according to recent CRA direction, to use its funds for projects with organizations not registered as charitable with CRA. So using the

Erle Allan for Thailand will not be possible, based on current information.

Bill Egnatoff

Provided a brief update on International / Youth / Music programme DARKSPARK. Bill to prepare some

ideas for further DARKSPARK connection and possible events at our next meeting on April 29th

.
