COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE

MINUTES FEBRUARY 4, 2026

In Attendance:  Don Taylor, Don Polk, Don Misener, Russ Phin, Trevor Dagilis, Jennifer Patelli, Sylvain Bouffard (guest)

Regrets:  None

New Business:

1. Remaining budget for CSC 2025/2026 is $1817.00, but this is likely to increase with upcoming extra Bingo shifts.  How should we allot these funds?
• Frontenac Lennox and Addington Science Fair (March 26, 27)– Last year, we were silver sponsors ($200) and awarded 3 prizes of $150 each, for a total of $650.  The committee unanimously agreed to do the same this year.  Trevor has reached out to one of the organizers to see if Rotary clubs can work together on this.  Jennifer has also reached out to ensure that we can participate.  Three of our members (MC, Sylvain and Don Polk) are interested in judging.
• Almost Home – Don Taylor will see if there is a specific, tangible need currently.
• Kingston4Paws – They are always happy for financial (and fostering!!) support.
• Lionhearts—We made a large ($10,000) donation last fall.  There are always ongoing needs. Tonight’s meeting featured a presentation about their organization.
• Clothes for Kids – In December, we pledged $1000, but have not yet sent the money.  Jennifer will contact the Waterfront Club to organize an e-transfer.
2. Meeting Individuals’ needs
• Don Polk will ask the Bingo organizers if proceeds from Bingo can be used to meet individuals’ needs.
• Erle Allen funds might be used for practical needs such as mobility equipment, eye wear, dentures, hearing aids.
• Social Services for the City of Kingston screens clients re: financial needs.  Jennifer has asked John Mirski who to contact at the city offices to get that ball rolling…
3. There is $1200 revenue from calendar sales that might be at the disposal of our committee.
4. Don Polk mentioned that Blood Donations are way down and encouraged all members to roll up their sleeves!!

NEXT MEETING – Wed., March 4 at 5:15 at Loaf N' Ale
